Ageing or Disability?

 

Ageing - This specialisation gives you the opportunity to work in a residential home or respite centre. A support worker provides personal, physical and emotional support to clients and assists with daily tasks such as showering, dressing, shopping, preparing food, outings and social activities.

Disability

Disability support workers promote independence and support their clients to become more self-reliant and build confidence. As a Disability Support Worker you will support individuals with a disability to achieve goals, complete daily tasks, and combat isolation and boredom.

Course Highlights

 

As part of this course, you will engage in:

  • 19 weeks of classroom training combining theory and hands-on practical activities.

  • 2 days per week of structured learning, plus additional study workshops.

  • 6 weeks of organised local work placement (120 hours) to gain real-world experience.

  • Training with up-to-date equipment, including hoists, beds, and wheelchairs.

  • Access to all required learning resources, supplied by ATC Work Smart.

The course fees are free in 2025.

Proof of eligibility must be provided at the time of enrolment.

You are eligible for a subsidised training place if you have left school, your primary place of residence is in Western Australia and you are: 

  • an Australian citizen; or

  • a permanent visa holder or holder of visa subclass 309, 444, 785, 790, 820 or 826;

  • a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457; or

  • a Bridging Visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) and you have made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790; or

  • selected humanitarian stay/protection visa's. Contact us for details.

This is in accordance with the Department of Training and Workforce Development Vet fees and charges policy 2025.
